Recycled / Reprocessed PVC Compound

The PVC scrap obtained from PVC processing plants is recycled into reusable PVC compound. The recycling process comprises of Lump preparation, PVC scrap Grinding and Plastic Extrusion process. Most of the foreign particles are removed in the recycling process and the material can then be reused. The recycled PVC scrap finds applications in cable filling, cable dummies and such similar applications. Some manufacturers also use the reprocessed PVC in insulation of wires which is not a recommended application area. Use of recycled PVC scrap helps in reduction of the end product costs and also helps in environmental conservation.

Lumps Preparation

The PVC Scrap is sorted whereby all burnt materials are stripped off. At times other plastic scrap is also present in the available scrap and this needs to be sorted out. The good scrap is cut down to small sized blocks suitable for grinding. PVC scrap is occasionally sorted according to colors to obtain the finished products in corresponding colors. When no sorting is done the recycled PVC is obtained in shades of black. If a distinct black color is required some black colouring material like carbon black, pigment paste or matserbatch is added.

Grinding

The small blocks of PVC is then broken down into small flakes with the help of a scrap grinder. The ground material is then sieved to improve the quality of the compound.

PVC Extrusion

The small flakes of PVC are then heated in a high speed mixer. Here additives are added for any modification that may be desirable and possible. The mixture is then extruded using a palletizing line. Suitable screens are used to filter the material of foreign particles. The material so obtained is ready for subsequent use.
